Road Safety

"My workforce is on the road every day. That's a great opportunity to help make the roads safer." - Stevie Kidd, MD, KDS Group.

KDS - Keeping Driving Safe

With the majority of our employees on the road every day, KDS Distribution has a fantastic opportunity to spread the word of road safety with every journey we make. Our road safety initiative is a clear expression of our strong commitment to social responsibility and citizenship - and we are always looking for new, creative ways to spread the message further.

More Than Just Numbers

There's no doubt about it, the message about road safety is an important one. In 2008, although UK road deaths fell to their lowest level since 1926, when records began, the death toll was still 2,943.

It doesn't need to be said that the lives of 2,943 fathers, mothers, sons and daughters is 2,943 too many. That's why we have found innovative ways to make the roads safer.

Using Our Vans to Spread the Message of Road Safety

Our fleet of vans has been redesigned to include hard-hitting road safety messages. After all, why not make our vans into "mobile advertising hoardings" which can carry highly effective advertisements wherever we go? We use imagery from Brake’s powerful road safety posters on our vans, giving many more people the opportunity to see these striking images and promote KDS's commitment to road safety. Our vans are even now making their deliveries with strong messages on different aspects of road safety, such as mobile phone use, drinking and driving and other road safety initiatives.

We have also partnered with Shell UK to place one of our vans on the forecourt of a busy Edinburgh petrol station, so that thousands of people every day are reminded of our road safety message.

Making our Fleet Safer Through Training

Also central to our commitment to road safety is the rigorous safety training we give to all our drivers. We also offer driving safety training courses to other companies, through KDS Training. Our drivers report that they are proud to receive this training, and are proud to be driving vans with such a clear road safety message on them.

Public Information Initiatives

KDS continues its push to promote road safety in all facets of the community with new road safety initiatives. For example, we were recently delighted when Glasgow Museum of Transport agreed to display our road safety banner during Road Safety Week. Displaying the banner on such a large and important building in Scotland's largest city meant that it was seen by tens of thousands. The banner, displayed within the road vehicles section of the museum, promoted our charity partner Brake's 'Not a drop, Not a drag - Stay Sober, Save Lives' campaign.
